- Description
- On a lovely summer day in August, three of the Belles of the Bay ventured out to one of the local coffee shops to share a beverage and find a new friend, with whom we could share our enthusiasm about the Women’s Institute.
Armed with our trusty bookmarks, provided by the FWIO, we stood in line at Amici’s Coffee Bar in Sauble Beach, Ontario. It was a warm day – a warm beverage was not on the menu, but the line was long, as the iced chai lattes from Amici’s are particularly yummy!
As we stood in line, we met Tena, who lives just outside Lion’s Head, Ontario, just north of us on the Saugeen Peninsula. She was visiting her daughter, and had come to the coffee bar looking for something cool to drink. We offer to purchase her seltzer, and invited her to join us as we talked about the WI and what it represented to us.
Our fourth WISH team member was not able to join us, as she is pregnant with twins and not very mobile. That meant that only one of our three remaining team members was a full member of the WI. She talked about the value of the organization, and why she had decided to join, and some of the benefits she has found through her membership, including opportunities to support her community, meeting others who had similar interests to her own, and learning new things and participating in unique activities. Our discussion turned to the ROSE program and the kinds of presentations we had hosted in Colpoy’s Bay. One of our team members was very interested in helping to organize a wide range of speakers for upcoming events, and we are looking forward to hearing and learning about many new things in the coming season! Tena also indicated that she would be interested in learning more about the WI.
By this time our drinks were finished, and we decided it was time to move on with our day. We thanked Tena for her time and participation, and went our separate ways.
