Eleanor Elg (Team Captain) presenting Diane Peters with a WI bookmark for this clue.
Lucky Lilies met at Karen’s Kitchen in our hometown of Milverton. I had phoned ahead to discuss what we were planning as there was a possibility we would be occupying a table for longer than the norm. We ordered coffee and waited. Team captain Eleanor was designated to step up to the till if and when a “candidate” came in. The lady was in awe of me paying for her lunch. She came over to our table to say thank you. I introduced Diane to our Lucky Lilies team. We explained our act of kindness in regards to our WI Scavenger hunt with participants across Ontario. I presented Diane with the bookmark and our conversation just flowed. She lives in a small town nearby. Diane was aware of WI as her mother had been a member years ago in Alton, Ontario, in Peel region. She asked if we had a branch close to our area. We replied that most of our members are centrally located here. She had also heard of the New Dundee WI branch. Diane was the perfect person to chat with. We interacted so easily and so well. I had copied some FWIO pages with information about the organization and also had written out some of our Lily Dempsey projects that we have been involved with or contributed to. I gave her a file folder with this information and my contact number. Also of interest, she had attended a local church where three of us worship and she supports the local church luncheons in Milverton. Now picture this, she is standing by our table chatting for a while, her lunch is ready, and there sits her husband at their table staring over at us with a look of “what is going on, our lunch is ready”. Diane and her husband came back to our table after their lunch and he said “thank you ladies, that was very nice”. Please take note of the colours she is wearing. I tell you, she was so right for this act of kindness. It felt like instant friendship. Perhaps our act of kindness has found friendship and membership. In any event, our team just felt so invigorated by meeting Diane and extending that small act of paying it forward.
