Our theme is trees.
What comes to mind when you think of a tree? Family tree, Tree of Life or an actual standing tree with green or coloured foliage? Or a whole forest?
We chose a tree as we could relate it to our W. I. organization.
There are numerous varieties of trees including maple, birch, ash, elm, willow, and oak, just to name a few. Trees come in all shapes, sizes, and colours. Trees are good for the ecosystem. They provide oxygen, improve air quality, conserve water, preserve soil and support wildlife. Trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen we breathe.
Remember, from little seeds grow mighty trees. The little seed that W.I. planted 125 years ago was to help educate women in keeping their families healthy and well fed and provided a social connection. The little seed grew into a mighty network of women starting in Ontario and now worldwide. Just like a tree, our F.W.I O. ladies are all shapes, sizes, and colours. We are eager to promote our values of mutual respect and support, a healthy environment, safe communities, versatility, and adaptability.
Just like a tree, our F.W.I.O. organization is well rooted in the communities. Like tree branches, our F.W.I.O. branches also reach out in many directions and provide assistance to those in need locally and worldwide. The various and numerous F.W.I.O projects were and are achieved by turning over many stones and leaves.
We are a forest, not just one tree!
As mentioned, trees are good for the ecosystem. Our Huron Perth District certainly gave a boost to the ecosystem through the planting of 125 trees to commemorate W.I.’s 125th anniversary.
Lucky Lilies believe our painted stones qualify for and symbolize the Tree of Life.
Our painted stones are placed in a friend’s garden to convey our friendship in their journey through life. Their smile is our reward.
