This rock was painted and put in my daughter Jessica’s kitchen. It’s in the cupboard with the coffee cups to remind her to take care of one special tree that is in need of attention. It is a Serbian Spruce that was damaged by woodpeckers. I do not want to lose this tree, it is so tall over thirty feet and it is majestic. This rock will make her smile and remind her what she has to do. Story by Karin Brozic

In the ‘nature’ theme, I chose to paint a fern because I love their beautiful leafy fronds. We may consider them delicate ornamental plants, but ferns have thrived and persevered, unchanged for millions of years. I painted this rock in honour of my mom, who is as beautiful, strong and steadfast as a fern. I wanted to remind her that she is “ferntastic” each and every day. I hid the rock near the steps of her deck, where she enjoys sitting and enjoying the sun. Story by Emily Thompson

The rock I chose to paint in our ‘nature’ theme, has a Bee and the word Happy….Bee Happy! I want my husband to smile when he walks by it with the lawn mower. It is displayed in our garden next to the rocks our girls painted thirty years ago and a raccoon lawn ornament from my mothers’ garden. We have shared so many gardening escapades over the years and this will be one more addition. Story by Donna Thompson

My special someone is my husband, Jim. Our first date was attending a Maple Leaf hockey game against the Edmonton Oilers and Jim was so impressed that I actually booed Wayne Gretzky! We are both lifetime Leaf fans and have attended many games over the 40 years that we have been married and have never given up on them. Based on our team’s theme of ‘nature’, I painted a bee and a blue maple leaf on the rock that I’ve hidden outside in our garden for Jim. This rock symbolizes that we have always and will always be-leaf in the Leafs and in each other. Story by Annemarie McDonald
