A Cairn and plaque erected at the birth place of Adelaide Hunter Hoodless is located at the corner of Hwy's 24 and 5 near St George. It is also just a short distance from the current location of the historical Hunter Hoodless Homestead on Blue Lake Road. The Cairn was erected by the Women's Institutes of Brant County and dedicated by the Lady Tweedsmuir on October 2, 1937. It is in honour of Adelaide who was instrumental in the founding of Women's Institute. Her presence is still very much a part of the St George Community with guests visiting the homestead and through the St George Women's Institute. The location we visited is very personal to Karen, one of our team members. She shared with us memories of picnics there as a child. She also showed us photos of her children with their grandparents when they planted a memorial tree in 2002 and erected the flag pole in 2003. She had spoke to her dad earlier in the day who told her that he had done some repair work to the Cairn several years ago also. She wanted to share this special place with her team. So on February 26, the same day Addie died at 51 years old, we visited her birth place for to take our photo. Addie accomplished so many things in her short lifetime to make our world better for all of us. As the Rural Renegades carry on her legacy of strong and independent women in a rural environment we can only hope that we to will have an impact in the years to come. - Notes
