Description
Grace Patterson Park

The Go-Getters chose Grace Patterson Park as our destination. The park is located at the intersection of Highway 2 and County Road 119 in Thamesford, Oxford County.

In 1967 the park was founded by the members of Grace Patterson Branch (now disbanded). It does feature a picnic shelter, lovely trees and park benches and is adjacent to the Thames River. Recently, a dog park has been established just north of the park.

Grace Patterson was born in the Thamesford Area and was a missionary to India. The club was originally named the Grace Country Club and in 1945 the name was changed to Grace Patterson Women’s Institute. At one time, there were 70 members (one of whom was Grace Patterson). The members raised money to help Grace in her missionary work. In November 1954, Grace Patterson returned to make her home in Thamesford. She had worked many years to make her community a better place. She continued to work on the branch scrap books. Many of Merle Tingley’s cartoons (her favourite cartoonist) were found in the scrapbooks.

In 1970, Grace Patterson was presented with a Life Membership in the branch that carried her name.
