Description
We are proud of what our branch has accomplished in our community over the years. We are pleased to share the story of the renovations made at the Ameliasburgh Town Hall. Our picture, featuring team members, left to right, Elizabeth Shantz, Susan Donly and Nancy Wood, was taken on a very cold, windy February 15th, 2022, standing on a snow bank, in front of the Women's Institute , "Home & Country Rose" Quilt Block, at the Ameliasburgh Town Hall, Ameliasburgh, Ontario. This quilt block was designed by Marilyn Edmonds, of Brighton Ontario winner of Quilt Block Competition for FWIO show held in Toronto, 2005.
Our story was submitted by Elizabeth Shantz, we are lucky to have such a talented member in our branch.

See below for a poem, recipe, and more info.

A scavenger hunt - wow what fun!

A chance to spend some time in the sun.

WISH is a chance to share the feeling,

We find in WI that is so appealing.

The Hall was in a state of disrepair,

The County said they didn't have the budget to share,

Our group said someone should care,

There was a need so we (and the community) should dare,

To take on the project and help out,

We dove in and began without a doubt.

We try to assist when we see a need,

Whether to help out others or to take the lead,

The Barn Quilt project was a joint effort we knew,

with Consecon, Rednersville and Mountain View,

To mount at the Hall to show our pride

In WI, to beautify the countryside.

The "Home and Country Rose" marked the 120th year

Of WI, spreading education, good will and cheer.

It also marked the completion of renovations,

Making the Hall great for celebrations,

And meetings by clubs *, part of the Working Group

Led by Mountain View, money raised by special

events, bake sales and soup.

From floor to ceiling, with fire drapes too.

A new door, widened hallways and the kitchen so new.

Because of our work, when a storm tore the roof,

The County stepped up to replace it, plus accessible

washrooms as proof,

They appreciated our efforts, wanting the Hall to stand,

To be used and treasured by the people of the land,

So we gathered together outside on a cold wintry day,

To toast with hot chocolate +, in the WI way.
