The Fair was officially opened at 2:00 p.m. and many residents of the area and summer visitors con-- tinued to flow through the arena, viewing the exhibits until closing time at 9:00 p.m. A quilt made 'by Mrs. Douglas Noel, a map of Southampton, was on display. Vil'trUe W.1.'s Craft And _ Hobby Fair A Success A record crowd of about 900 adults and children thronged to the Port Elgin Arena, Wednesday, July 16, to enjoy the excellent Craft and Hobby Fair sponsored by the Women's Institutes of Bruce Centre District. The Arena was filled with beau-- tiful handwork, representative of this area. There was an outstand-- ing collection of 130 quilts and 25 spreads which provided a colorful background for mats, oil paint-- ings, afghans, tablecloths, em-- broidery, cushions, collector's items, aprons, novelties and an-- tiques. Groups participating were the Allenford, Arkwright, Brucedale, Burgoyne, Elsinore, Mount Hope, Port Elgin, Southampton, South Saugeen, Tara, Underwood, West Arran, White School Institutes and the Country Sisters' Com-- munity Club. The following indi-- viduals also set up booths and contributed to the success of the Mr G. Hauser, Port Elgin, pre-- sented his collection of rock jewellery, Mrs R. Rhodes, Port Elgin, displayed the many uses of liquid embroidery. Mrs H. Smith, Burgoyne, de-- monstrated the making of pottery. An attractive collection of wood craft was the work of Mr W. Hargraves, Tara. Mrs J. Disher, also of Tara, had a colorful dis-- play of corsages and Christmas decorations. Mr and Mrs L. Kah-- gee, of Saugeen Reserve, had in-- teresting driftwood articles. Mrs G. McEwing's table was covered with floral arrangements from her shop at Queen Hill, Crochet-- ing of many articles was the work of Mrs R. Turnbull of Saugeen, A summer resident, Mrs J. Robin-- son of Chippewa Golf and Coun-- try Club, displayed copper ena-- meling, Port Elgin's well known artist, Mr T. Campbell, hadpaintings on display, Mrs R. Vance, Under-- wood, had braided rugs andliquid embroidery work in her booth. A summer visitor, Mrs M. Digulla, Engleheart, had an interesting collection of novelty toys, house= coats, beach-- wear, and a hooked rug in modern design, Mrs R. Owen had--her fance wark on dis~ play. Tea tables, fish ponds and bake tables were centres of interest. Miss Betty Leeder, Mrs D. Mc-- Kay, Mrs J. McEwing and the South Saugeen Orchestra pro-- vided music in the evening. Mrs H.
