Brown's Corners; 7 . .55.: 4.2g 7 4-H Meeting i? . Brown's 4-H Girls held their first 4-H meeting, last Thursday night, with six girls present. Leaders are: Michelle West and Mabel Muir. Mrs. John Hawkesworth read 'Her Majes- ty's message on her 2lst Birthday' and Her Majesty's Accession Declaration to the Throne. Mrs. David Arthur introduced Mrs. Ross Green of Thorndale who rendered two beautiful solos. Mrs. Herb Schutt gave a paper on the "Courage and Faith of the Queen". The 4-H Pledge and how it applies todiving was discussed, also requirements for the record books.as well as "Achievement Day". . - - Sunday was the Sunday School Rally Service at Brown's. The boys and girls of the Sunday School presented some musical selections and Rev. Thomson gave a talk on "Joseph- his brothers and father". I. show and tell was held as the group and some members brought articles from her Coro- nation and keepsakes they had. Mrs. John Hawkesworth had a collection of books, some she owned and some borrowed. Alice showed these and read a few highlights from them. Mrs. David Arthur spoke on the scrapbook and showed the pictures she had put in it on the-s Jubilee. Mrs. Hubert Uren favored the meeting with a lovely piano instrumental. Mrs. Murray Kingdon thanked Mrs. Green and Mrs. Uren and presented them with gifts. The meeting was turned back to the president who announted a number of our members had birthdays in Sept. 'e . 7 I am grateful to Christine Wakem for this report 'on the fourth meeting of Brown's 4-H wedding AtBr?ti)fks, l ChurCh The October thahk-offering meeting of Brown's U.C.W. was held in the school with the group "The Church in Society" con- veped by Mrs. Murray Taylor presenting a Thanksgiving Pro- gram. Mrs. M.. Taylor opened the meeting by reading a poem "Today is our Thanksgiving". The scripture lesson, Psalm 100, was read by Mrs. Aksel Jensen. A number entitled "We thank The Lord" was presneted by Mis. Murray Taylor, Mrs. Wm. Nichol, Mrs. John Hawkeswortl1 Mrs. Calvin Richardson, Mrs. Aksel Jensen and Mrs. George Towle. A short skit, "I am Thankful" by Mrs. Murray Taylor, Mrs. Aksel Jensen and Mrs. Calvin Richardson made those present realize how much we have and enjoy in this life while so many have so little and how we often fail to express'our gratitude to God and to others as we should. The president, Mrs. John Hawkesworth, presided over the business period when it was decided to serve lunch following our church Anniversary service on Oct. 30th. _ A 'roofing bee' took place' at the school house at Brown's last Saturday, which resulted in the whole root being covered with steel, and the 'belfry' being removed. The project began at 8:30 a.m. and by 55:00 p.m. it was completed and all the shingles taken away and dispos- ed of. Mrs. Clara Taylor has moved to an apartment in St, Marys, for the winter. Girls. The pledge' was repeated and REIT Cadiinswered. Plans were made to go to Maurice Oliver’s Studio and see how films are processed, and every one is to take notes about the process. Our projects were also discussed, and various points were stressed. This meeting was held at the home of Michaelle West. The second 4-H meeting was held at the home of Michelle West, last Thurs night, with five girls present. At Strathroy United Church, Oct. 17th from 10 to 3:00. A Resources Day is to be held. The Presbyterial meeting will be held at St. Andrews United Church, London, on Feb.- 9, 1978. Westminster Week-end was announced for May 26-28. Mrs. John Hawkesworth gave the closing benediction. A delicious luncheon was served at noon of various hot casseroles and home-made rolls. The ladies are asked to bring dish towels, face cloths and hand towels to the November meeting to be forwarded later to Hazelton Children's Home, Haz- elton, B.C. - 1c:c,,o.., f 2/7.“; for the club is Brown's Thiift"y Thinkers. Quilted samples were worked on and discussed. Mesdames Marion Munro, Margaret Arthur and Dorothy McEvoy, attended the London Area Convention of the Wo- men's Institute, at Vanastra, last Wednesday. Thirteen ladies and two children took a car trilrto Stratford on Oct. 12th. Kroehler Mfg. plant was the first stop with a well guided tour through the plant, and a leisure time to browse through the show room which all the ladies enjoyed and dreamed a little of the furniture they would like to have. 3 A The Ponderosa was the next stop for a very tasty lunch, and then the group visited the Stratford Public Library with very capable attendants to show The Secretary reminded all of several up coming meetings, the invitations to visit with the Uniondale W.I. on Oct. 13th and the Fall board meeting Oct. let at Hickson. The couple were presented with a gift from the group in honour of their recent marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Arthur of Sault Ste. Marie were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Arthur. Best wishes go to Miss Heather West, who left last Monday to take up a position as a Registered Nurse in New Orleans. The November meeting is in charge of the Education and Cultural Affairs group with Mrs. Ray Wakem as convenor. Remember ladies November starts afternoon meetings at 1:30 pan. and this brought a very enjoyable day to a close, with a thanks to the Canadian Industry Group.
