She attended the Renfrew Model School and later taught in schools of the Cobden vicinity. On December 18, 1900, she married Alexander McLean at Cobden and took up residence in Beachburg. Of this union were born four daughters and three sons. They are; Mrs. Gerald Geddes(Margaret), Mrs. Norman Sharkey(Laura), Mrs. John Thompson(Jean), Mrs. Gorâ€" don Richardson(Maisie), Donald, John and James. While Mrs. McLean was President of the Beachburg Branch, she suggested that one meeting in the year be set aside to honour the members who were grandmothers. This idea was adopted and was later taken up by other Institutes. Now "Grandmother‘s Day" is an annual feature of almost every branch in Canada. ‘ Mrs. McLean lived to attain the ripe old age of eighty nine when she died in 1959. =4 _ s [ â€"4 .
