She attended school in Beachburg and later the Model School in Renfrew from where she graduated as a public school teacher. She taught in Crozier‘s school (S.S. # 12 Westmeath) as well as in other schools of the vicinity. Later she worked for the Government in Ottawa, where she met and married Mr. R.F. Hicks.
