L. ROSCOE ROBSON Lewis Roscoe Robson was born in Huntingdon Township, the son of the late Mr. 8 Mrs. Lewis Robson, on December 6, 1897. He graduated fran Belleville High School with Junior Matriculation in l915. He attended Madoc Model School and graduated in December l9l5. He taught school at 8.8. No. 22 in Tyendinaga Township from January 2, l9l6 - December 22, l9l7. He enlisted in the 73rd Battery, Kingston May 3, l918 and proceeded to England where he attended the school of Gunnery at Borden from August to December l9l8 from which he graduated as a siege signaller. Roscoe returned to Canada July 7, l9l9 to farm on the 9th Concession of Thurlow. May l9, I923 he married Eva Mae Hodgen of Plainfield, the daughter of Mr. 8 Mrs. Ernest Hodgen. Their family consisted of five children - John of Halloway, Rodger who operates the family farm, Audrey, (Mrs. Donald Brown of Hoard's Station), Shirley, (Mrs. Douglas Pyear of Stirling) and Barbara, (Mrs. Jack Wardaugh of Belleville). Roscoe first entered public life when he entered Thurlow Township Council January 1932 as a Councillor. In 1935 he was elected deputy reeve and held the office until l938 when he was acclaimed reeve - I938 - 1943. In July I940 he had enlisted in the Reserve Army at Madoc. He received his commission as 2nd Lieutenant in l94l but in l9h3 was discharged as physically unfit. In 1943 he was successfully nominated as the candidate to represent the East Hastings riding for the Progressive-Conservative Party. For the next 15 years the riding continued to re-elect him as its representative at Queen's Park. In I958 he resigned from office and was appointed Sheriff for the County- He gave unflagging attention to the multitude of duties demanded by the office. Besides his public record he maintained an active role in his community- At the time of his death he had been an elder and steward for 12 years in the Halloway United Church. He was a member of the Halloway L.0.L. and Foxboro Royal Black Preceptory 382. He was also a member of the Rotary Club. His death April l, l96h was a loss, not only to his family, but to a wide circle of friends. His high standard of public service will long be an inspiration to many people in the county whom he served so faithfully.
