HRS. ADELAIDE HUNTER HOODLESS Mrs. Adelaide Hunter Hoodless was the founder of the first Women's Institute in the world at Stoney Creek on February 17, 1897. Mrs. Hoodless was born and reared on a farm at St. George, Ontario. The vital interest taken by Mrs. Hoodless was by the loss of her eighteen month old baby, which the Doctor's told her could have been saved by giving him pasteurized milk as we know it today. Mrs. Hoodless decided something should be done to teach the girls at school to become better homemakers. She decided that this can be accomplished by teaching domestic science in the public schools. Mrs. Hoodless started this organization for the purpose of education as found in the objectives of the Institute today.
