BATY FAMILY - 2 Thomas Baty helped organize Hope Synday School on the ï¬rst concession and the family has a cane that was presented to him in 1888 in appreciation of his help. The family was musical and most of them were members of the choir. Of this family, Thomas Baty, Robert T and Lloyd have been choir leaders and Marie and Velma, organists. Violet Baty served on the Mission Field in China for a number of years. There she met and ma rriod Non-nan Knight. On their return to Canada he served as pastor of the United Church at Blackie,Alberta. The farm has been broken so that only a part of the original acreage remains in the Baty family. The Buchanan Hydro Station was built on the property and Highway 401 took a strip across the (arm south of the buildings. The large white brick house and frame barn still stand.
