ADELAIDE HUNTER HOOD LESS Adelaide Hunter Headless was born on a farm near St. George, Ontario in 1858. On February 19th, 1897, with the help of Mr. Erland Lee she organized at Stoney Creek the world's First Women's Institute. It was her belief that in this organization rural women would discuss their problems and work together to improve their standard of homemaking and citizenship. When she died in 1910 the organization which she had founded had grown to 612 Branches With a membership of 16, 104 women.
