Malcolm Institute‘s International Affairs meeting takes on new meaning with English Women's Institute members 'as guests Members of Malcolm WJ. enjoyed a most rare exponence last Thursday evening when they met at the Scone School for their June meeting and were joined by an English W.l. mem~ Ircr presently visiting in the area, Mrs. Connie Rudd and her husband Bernard of Droilwrch. England are spending .r month with cousins Peter and Grace Heard of Elmwmd, all of who were present as guests at the meeting designated m “lntemational Afiairs". In addressing the group, Connie described the nature of her local Drnitwich Women's Institute group and II was very evident that although our international organizations share common aims, objectives and ACWW connections, there are also major differences such as much larger memberships and definite guidelines ctiriceming charitable donations. She presented two souvenir towels to the Malcolm branch from herself and thc Druitwiclr branch and also circulated postcards which had been signed by sixty other lellow W.l. members. These will be kept with the Malcolm i'wcedsmuir History collection to \CI'VL‘ as a reminder of Connie’s visit wrttr the group. ()n lschzrlt of the Malcolm branch, lrlrlll Stucmpfle presented two Bruce County Tartan souvenirs to Connie. she received the personal gm of a tlrimhlc and a serving tray for her WI. branch Those in anendancc signed a card of geeting and good Wishes for her to take home to Droitwich Both Connie and Bernard answered ques- tions and impartedmuch infomraiion about their lifetime experiences in their homeland Sixteen members and seven visitors answered the roll call by naming the British monarch who was reigning in the year they were born. Eileen Leifso led in devotions and everyone shared interesting items of neighborly I'IBWS. Contributions to Pennies for Friendship were based on a penny for each year 0! WJ. membership. Margaret McCready led the group through two very challenging but enjoyable recreational exercises. Ruth Engel oonducted a “Birdinnd” contest. President Barb Klages conducted the business session Plans for sum» mer include entering a float in the Chcsley Homecoming parade, cater: ing to a local wedding and a lunch booth, and preparing two exhibits for the Chesley Fall Fair Long-range plans were announced for a ‘iFashion Show for Windows" which will be a demonstration to be held on the evening of October 26 in the Elmwood Community Centre to which the public is invited. Members decided to accept the challenge of Twinning with an Alberta W.I. branch for the coming year. This will be a program of all member correspondence by letter between the two branches. Nine members horn Malcolm W.l. attend- ed the meeting at Paisley on May lit Enthusiastic reports were received from the five branch members who went to the Centennial Prelude Quilt Show and Barbeque at Milton on June 14. President Barb and other members associated with the local 4»H clubs urged members to pick up. complete and submit one of the available ques- tionnaires re the Ontario 4-H Progam. Plan for the Future so that contents and suggestions on any or all aspects of the plan could be regisi tered. A social time over a‘serving of strawberry shortwke and a cup of tea concluded a very enjoyable and mem- orable evening. . A,
