They settled near Carleton Place in Ontario, in 1855 their son James Keyes came to Greenock and settled on Lot 5 Concession 17 on 10/. acres. He was married to Hester Garland and they had a family of 8 daughters and 5 sons. One of these daughters, Matilda was married to "Ill. McFadden, who was The Great-grand- father to the present owner. After oom- plying to the agreement of having 10 acres cleared and a suitable dwelling the Crown Deed was purchased a $1.50 an Acre in 1862. Prior to 1901 this property was divided into two 50 acre lots, in 1901 the property belonged to a Johnathan Rob- inson and sold on March 18 to Rebecca and Elizibeth Robinson, on June 15th of the same year the property was sold to a W. G. Bell, this being the west half of the property. It was sold back into the Me- Fadden family again in May 1912 and remain- ed until around 191.4 when it was purchased by Garnet Taylor to make it into one parcel of land again consisting of 101. acres. The buildings on the west half of lot 5 were on 5 sideroad just south of the creek. At one time just pripr to 191.1. Harold Bzin owned the east half of lot 5. After Garnet Taylor the owner was Hm. Houston who sold it to the present owner Wilmer McFadden in 1952 and they took possesion in October of that year. The farm is well watered by Plum Creek and the house now on the prop- erty was built for George Gilchrist in 1929 by G. Parker of Faisley end was built over the foundation of the old house. The barn on the property at that time was rais- ed and a cement stable put under it by the same owner. Electricity was put in in 1951 and the telephone installed in 1929, in the Bruce System. The barn and st.er shed was destroyed in a tornado on July 8th, 1956 and a new steel barn was erected on the same stable with the straw shed was enlarged to 50 x 40 and 40 x 38. Mixed farming was carried on, pigs, chickens, and beef cattle with owners Just starting into dairy herds. A two unit milking machine had been installed in May of 1956. The sun porch which was along the front of the house had been closed in while Taylors owned it and this was remodelled in the summer of 1960 and ext- ended 2 feet and made into two rooms inside. In 1967 the barn was enlarged to make a square building 50 x 80 and the barnyard cemented, also 2 rooms and bathroom and full basement and also a garage was built onto the back of the house, this was completed in Feb of 1968. In 1967 there was also a front step and sidewalk cemented along the south side of the house . An old hen house was moved onto the property just east of the house shortly after the’ tornado and altered into a garage and driving shed which was added onto both sides in the following years. A milk house was built on the west end of the barn and a bulk milk tank put in, in 1961., there was also new stabling put in and a partial pipeline put in in 1967.
