FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK President’s Sayings: It‘s easy to sit in the sunshine And talk to the man in the shade. It’s easy to sit in a wellâ€"made boat And tell others where to wade. It’s easy to tell the toiler How best to carry his pack, But you’ll never know the weight of the load Until the pack is on your back. The 11th triennial Convention has come and gone. The “pack” is now on my shoulders to carry our organization through the next three years. Our past president, Beatrice Reeves, carried “the pack" well, to the credit of all our members. We will miss her quick wit, her ability to defuse a touchy situation and her ready laugh. Along with Bea, we, who have remained, will miss the others who have retired from the Board. We wish them well. They have served FWIC creditably. With the talent and resourcefulness of the new Board members. the responsibility you have placed on my shoulders will be shared and lightened. I personally welcome these members and look forward to working with them. There are so many areas in today’s world to which we could devote our energies over the next three years. Putting them into priority is the question! How to deal with them as a national organization, another. At the past Board meeting environment was felt to be near the top. and a special convenor has been named. Another priority is the whole problem of child care â€" and the care givers. Also high on the list are the health system as it applies to women, AIDS and what W.I.‘s can do. and our responsibilities to ACWW. As the months go on you will be hearing more on these. Nova Scotia is celebrating its 75th Anniver- sary. On behalf of the Federated Women’s Institutes I extend very best wishes. Among their many activities planned in the next month are a luncheon with H.R.H. Princess Margaret and the 75th Anniversary Convention. I would like to thank all of you who were so kind and generous with your best wishes and offers of assistance to me for the next trien- nium. It is an honor to represent all of you, and I will endeavour at all times to serve the organization to the best of my abilities. “By the yard â€" life is hard. /I By the inch â€" it’s a cinch." JENNIE McINNES NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR It was a pleasure hosting the Eleventh National Convention of FWIC. Our sincere thanks to all those who took the time to write thankâ€"you notes and also to those who stopped us to say thanks. Your thoughtfuli ness is much appreciated.
