Anderdon-Malden WI Members of this Branch recently praised eir District President for Essex South, Pat Grant. Although she is blind, members say she can chair a meeting like a pro and writes her minutes in braille, never forgetâ€" ting a detail. And. they added, she is always on hand to bake pies and cakes. FIothsay WI This Branch held a monthâ€"long fund raisâ€" ing project. They created a calendar which each day asked them to set aside a few cents for a particular event or item in their home: 10 cents for each room in their home; 25 cents if anyone in their house let the water run when brushing their teeth; 2 cents for each grade they received in school, and so on. The money raised was donated to the Anna Kaljas Homes in Kitchener for the homeless, New Prospect WI To recognize their local program, the town of Dryden flew a Block Parent’s flag in front of the Town Hall during Block 11mm Week. This WI was proud because ey were instrumental in getting the pro- gram established in Dryden during The International Year of the Child in 1979, Mitchell Square Wl' members did their part, along with other area Institutes, church groups and individuals, to help cancer patients have a more comfortable life through a donation of a $4000 morphine pump. The pump was donated to the Simcoe County District Health Unit (SCDHU). They con- cluded that fund raising can be a lot offunl Harwood WI The restoration of three green maple leaf signs at the edge of the village of Harwood on Rice Lake was just one of several pro- jects recently undertaken by this group. Others included: maintaining the flower beds around the signs; distributing a news- letter telling of Women's Institute accomplishments to over 400 households, and, entertaining the residents of the Gold~ en Plough Retirement Lodge in Cobourg, with music, birthday gifts and cakes.
