The book was paid for by advertising from local merchants canvassed by this Branch Grey West District WI Evelyn Duff. District President. and Mae Angelos, Secretary-Treasurer. led a course entitled “Entenain with aFlair," Five Branch members from Grey West and one from Grey North participated. Recipes to serve at a pot- luck and buffet style supper. as well as foods to serve at a senior's birthday party. were created. Fall '94 Wabash WI, Kent East The Wabash WI and The Foresters accom- plished what they set out to do two years ago - raise enough money to give their local community hall a face»lift and keep a roof over their heads. The group reached out to their rural community by selling pies. hold- ing bazaars and barbecues and catering events. The 100 year-old building. owned by The Forestors, is used for community events. including WI and Boy Scout meetings. the annual community barbecue and family re- unions. Because at excellent organization by the Women's Institutes Education Com- mittee tor Wellington and Hanan, more than 100people from these Districts were able to select Mo workshops, enjoy a hot luncheon and take home new knowledge or a completed craft. The variety of workshops included: seminan quilting; letting; photography; household appliance maintenance: self defense,- heam'iy eating and special needs diets; defensive driving and routine car maintenan ce; twisted paper crafts; and, Iabric covered lamp shades. But what do you do with a silk skirt. a paper weave basket and a lap robe after the fair is over? You raffle them off and donate the proceeds of $180 to the FWIO Headqu ar- ters Fund. Kent West District WI This past summer. members of the Kent West District Women’s Institutes took part in the dedication of the Power House Heri- tage Square in the town of Blenheim. The town had given rooms in the Power House to the Women's Institutes and the IiO.D.E. in memory ofthose who gave their lives duri World War I. During World Warl] the spa was used extensively to make jams and knit ted goods to send overseas. After the Power House building was declared beyond repair. it was demolished. A group of interested citizens. including WI members. converted the space into a park with omamenâ€" tal plants. picnic tables and benches. Peggy Roger. Past President of the District, spoke on behalf of the WI, recounting the many uses the organization had made of the old Power House. Brant North District WI A Tweedsmuir Workshop, under the leadership of Kay Taylor, District Tweedsmuir Curator. was well attended by Curators from both Brant North and South.
