The Director Writes. . . By the time you receive this issue of Home & Country the area conventions will be over. It gave me great pleasure to travel to the conventions this year with your Provincial President, Mrs. Janet I-Iiepleh, and to meet so many friends across the province. PRESIDENT’S PROJECT In her speech at area conventions, Mrs. Hiepleh appealed to members to find at least one new member per branch each year, during her term of office. It would be wonderful it the branches could achieve this goal. With over 1200 branches this would mean an increase in membership of 3,600 by the time Mrs. Hiepleh's term of office is finished. I would urge you to make every effort to attract new members to the Women's Institutes. Some branches may have to consider baby-sitting facilities, if young people are to become WI members. Others may find a slight revision of hours of meeting or program format may be all that is necessary to boost enrolment. At the conventions this year I learned of some very interesting programs and projects undertaken by the branches. Be sure to let all newcomers know about them. Don't leave everything to your branch public rela- tions officer to let the people in your community know what you are doing. Every individual WI member should take part in this drive for new members. STAFF CHANGES PROMOTION w Marjorie MacDonald, former Home Economist in Cochrane-Temiskaming District and Simcoe North County has been appointed Regional Supervisor for Eastern and Northern Ontario, located at the Kingston office. She replaces Carol Crerar, who resigned to become a new mother and full-time homemaker. Her daughter Heather Jean was bom on October 5th. Marjorie's mother. Mrs. Campbell MacDonald, belongs to the McCrimmon WI Branch in Glcngarry County. fut-i a» RECENT RESIGNATIONS Louise Dorschner, Cochraneâ€"Temiskaming District, got married in July and moved with her husband, Carl Leblanc, to Ottawa, where Carl took up an appointment with the federal Farm Credit Corporation. Loralee Routledge Marsha“, Huron County and for- merly in Leeds County. and on the staff of Centralia Col- lege, resigned in August to look after her new daughter, Crystal Megann. Mary Michels, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Coun- ties. resigned at the end of October to move to Alberta. She plans to live in Laduc. following a spring wedding. I am sure you will wish these young women well in their new lives. The branch hopes that Carol, Loralee and Louise will still be able to assist with workshops and Achievement Days.
