A NEIGHBOR A great way to see southwestern Ontario! It was a whirlwind trip for a busload of Ohio Farm Bureau Federation Inc. women. taking a few days off from busy home schedules to learn how the members of another Constituent Society of A.C.W.W. live and operate their Society. Crossing over at Port Huron. Board Directors for Southwestern Area arranged a tour of the city of Sar- nia. and then following an overnight stay. the group travelled into Middlesex County. The 34 O.F.B.F. representing 20 counties mainly in rural Ohio. had an opportunity to visit with W1. mem- bers and also tour a dairy farm owned by Duncan Fletcher, The members and guests went through the stables and barn and were most anxious to see how the dairy operation worked. A visit to the Strathroy mu- seum where W.l. members personally acted as guides and then on to Lobo Memorial Park. as guests of ('oldstream W.l. A meeting was held telling about the Tweedsmuir histories and house logs as well as the structure of Women‘s Institutes. When leaving. the guests were all given pen and ink sketches of local scenes by Mrs. Herb Jackson. The Ohio ladies travelled on to Perth County. the largest pork producing county in Ontario and were welcomed by the Gravelridge W.l. in their Hall. The women purchased a school house three years ago and the 30 membership group have renovated the building to meet the many needs in the community. Recepâ€" tions. banquets. local activities and meetings have tended to increase community activities. The Ohio Farm Bureau Women. after a busy and long day ol'visiting. attended the Festival at Stratford. Up and away the next morning for a visit in the F.W.I.C. owned Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Home. stead. Here they were able to see the birthplace til the coâ€"founder of WJ. A chance to meet the local chm. mittee. buy a few souvenirs and view the iOVCl‘. nishings. One ofthe Ohio ladies said, “it is a real ‘- ml] to see some of the original dishes and the old lum- ture." Here the Ohio Farm Hi. i; members took a look back in time when viewing facts. some dating back to 1800. As a farewell 2; ‘ t'resh Niagara plums and peaches were enjoyedn bus enroute to Niagara. During the visitations all along the way. the u bers of both organizations compared notes (:1. structure of F.W.I.O. and the Ohio Farm Burea. The Farm Bureau is rural with membership i to men and women. however the visiting group members of the Women‘s Committee, a part o! 71.000 membership in 86 counties in the state of! Some of their programs are tractor safety. ht blood donor programs. public affairs and youth . mittee. The resolutions are handled by a policy lei ment committee. Before the annual meeting. rt delegates have the opportunity to add to the ri- tions or delete a portion. all feel this method is v elTective and helps avoid unnecessary pitfalls d1: . the annual meeting.
