The opening day of the 25th Anniversary of the Annual Officers' Conference for Women‘s Institute members gave the delegates an oppor- tunity to visit the historic Erland Lee Home at Stoney Creek. Over 600 women were taken by bus (through the rain) from Waterloo Univerâ€" city to visit the recently acquired and renoâ€" vated Home. They were greeted by Mrs. Austin 5. Zoeller the F.W.I.O. chairman of the Home Committee and Mrs. Wayne Coombs acting hOstess. Miss Marjorie Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erland Lee, met the visitors in the afternoon and gave interesting information about her former home. Members of the Helena Feasby. New Dunâ€" dee. Haysville and New Hamburg Branches assisted with the bussing arrangements. Touring the Home, delegates were shown the original section built in 1801 and now being renovated to serve as an apartment for the hostess. In the pioneer kitchen. the gunstock chairs, pine cupboard, harvest table. an arrow back Boston rocker. a display of ironware and other household items were to be seen. In one room the Misses Lottie and Hattie Jones of the Saltfleet Branch displayed some of their charming collection of antique glass. Hostâ€" esses in the various rooms were members of the Saltfleet and Stoney Creek Branches. Mrs. Harvey Noblitt. President. was ob man for the formal sessions of the twenty-1 Conference for Officers‘ of the Feder. Women's Institutes of Ontario held at the I versity of Waterloo on May 1. 2, and 3. ‘ welcomed the delegates who had come I all over Ontario and expressed the hope they would find the coming sessions intere» and educational. GREETINGS FROM THE UNIVERSI’i 0F WATERLOO University President Dr. B. C. Mathews. sented a special welcome for the delegates said. “The Women’s Institute has a long hisl of service to the community and Ontario : better place for it." Dr. Mathews explained that Waterloo L varsity was established in 1958 and now ‘ about 13 000 students. It has now about 2 " undergraduate students in Engineering. 2 J in Mathematics, 2000 in Science, 2000 Arts, etc, and offers the only course in 4. tometry available in Canada. The delegates were told that there are 2 L'- beds in the Village 11 residence where ll:- were housed, that there are I 100 acres in l. campus and that the ducks which were fly? around in such a carefree manner had DC become a symbol of the university.
