The Second Junior Women’s Institute Convention “Cues For You" â€" in programing. recrea- tion. citizenship and crafts â€" was the theme of the second convention for young women who are members of the Ontario Junior Women‘s Institutes and Junior Farmers, held at the College of Agriculture and Technology at Centralia on September 27, 28. 29. 1968. A Get Acquainted party, under the direc- ti0n of Miss Barbara Watkins was the feature of Friday night‘s program. Miss Helen Shaw. chairman of the convention welcomed the guests â€" Mrs. Everett Small. President of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario; Mrs. Elton Armstrong, a former F.W.I.O. Board Director; and Miss Jean Scott. Supervisor of Junior Extension for the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food. Miss Scott brought the greetings and good wishes of her depart- ment to the conference. Formal sessions of the conventiOn opened on Saturday morning. with Miss Shaw in the chair. by singing O Canada. the Women's In- stitute Ode. and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect and The Lord’s Prayer. In her address on Program Planning. Mrs. Elton Armstrong presented the delegates with many ideas for better programs. and hints for better procedure in conducting their meetings. Group Discussions, introduced by Miss Sylvia Shaw. and Reports on the Discussion complet- ed the morning's program. Mrs. Ann Gregory, secretary of the convenâ€" tion was chairman for the afternoon session. the theme of which was Citizenship. A feature of the program was the showing of the prize winning Ontario film, and a contest dealing with features of the various counties of Ontario. Later. an Arti-Party, arranged by Miss Barâ€" bara Watkins, at which the making of the decâ€" orative paper flowers, paper Corsages and parâ€" ty favours, was demonstrated. Mr. W. A. Stewart, Minister of the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food was the guest speaker at the evening banquet. Mr. Sfey/art said that he hoped the girls would re- turn to their homes from the conference filled with enthusiasm for the opportunities to Serve. He referred to the great influence of the Sen- ior Women's Institutes on the lives of the members, the communities and world affairs. Miss Helen McKercher. Director of the Home Economics Branch addressed the girls, FALL T 968 Al the Second Convention for young women members of lhe Junior lnslitule and Junior Farmers. Miss Jean 5:0â€, Miss Helen Show, The Honourable W. A. Stewart, Mrs. Everett Small. telling them of the great interest of her depart- ment and of the Senior Women‘s Institutes in the Junior Women's organization. Mrs. Small. when speaking to the delegates. assured them of the full support of the senior branches for the work of the iuniors and en- couraged the girls to form new branches when young women indicated an interest in Wom- en‘s Institute work. Mr. J. A. MacDonald. Director of the Colâ€" lege. and Miss McUhec. Associate Director brought greetings and an invitation to see the facilities of the College. The evening closed with a dance sponsored by the Huron County Junior Farmers. On Sunday morning at nine-thirty. the dele~ gates attended a church service and then were on their way to their homes. At a business session. it was unanimoust decided that a Junior Women's Institute couâ€" vcnlion would he held in 1969. the date and place to be announced later.
