OFFICERS’ CONFERENCE INTERIM REPORT Mrs. Gerald Holder, Secretary Treasurer of Officers’ Conference reported 658 applications received for the 201h Annual Conference at the University of Guelph. Calnan will attend the annual meeting of the Elizabeth Fry Society on May 15 when Miss June Callwood will speak on “Youth and The Old Morality.” Miss Phyllis Haslam, executive director of the Society received at Centennial Medal in rec- ognition of her valuable service to the nation. Safety Workshopâ€"Metro Toronto Mrs. Norman Payne attended the Safety Workshop and reported the following points: (1) Need for training and re-training of drivers as number of licensed drivers expected to rise from three million in 1967 to four million by 1971. Reâ€"training was also deemed necessary when a driver reaches the 9»point level in the merit system. (2) Attitude of the driver most important at all times. (3) Eyesight important. (4) Road design and planning necessary with trees and signs well back. (5) Tubeless tires un- safe when tubes inserted. (6) Driver education should be gradual instruction from age 10. (7) Highest rate of accidents in July and Decem- ber â€" Saturday. Sunday, Friday and Thursday in that order â€" and at hours of five o‘clock or on darker winter nights. Convener of Home Eco- nomics and Health attended the tenth annual Farm Safety Conference in February at the University of Guelph when the theme was “Man. Machinery and Fire".
