River Valley Women’s Institute Celebrate Centennial To celebrate Centennial the River Valley Women‘s Institute reenacted the November 1910 meeting of their Branch. The authentic minutes of the November. 1910, meeting were read. Members in costume worked at quilting a quilt as the meeting took place, Features of the meeting were: a member giving a tip on making home-made soap; a member demonâ€" strating the proper method of sharpening knives; a member reading a two hundred and six verse poem with the title, “Mother's Last Words." It will serve as a community centre. Dundas District Women’s Institutes displayed the Tweedsmuir Village History books from their eleven branches, and the District book at a Centennial tea. The members wore centen- nial gowns, peek»a~boo bonnets. floral hats. and antique jewellery. There was an interest- ing display of antiques. Eramosa Township’s Women's Institutes combined to sponsor a Centennial program. Features were an old-fashioned spelling bee and a debate. Subject for debate was “Re- solved that the sec0r1d century of Canada will he more challenging than the first." Kipling sponsored an all day midsummer festival in which families of the Scandinavian People who settled in the North Bay area took a prominent part. There was a display of articles used by the Scandinavians and a Women’s Institute member, Mrs. Fred Eng- lund showed a Book of Remembrance which she had prepared.
