Mrs. Trivers hoped there would be a full attendance at the Summer School for Rural Women to be held at Federated Colleges, Guelph, July 8 to 12. Courses will include English, Music, Colour and Design. During the meeting Mrs. Lymburner spoke on the Consumer Trade Crusade launched by the Hon. Robert W. Macaulay. Elsewhere in this issue there is a report of the Crusade Conference of which Mrs. Lymburner was Chairman. Mrs. Lymburner also reported the meeting of the A.C.W.W. Council, London, England, at which she represented the Fed» erated Women's Institutes of Ontario. Retiring Members’ Party At this meeting the members whose terms on the Board have been completed were Mrs. Armstrong, Mrs. Pardy, Mrs. Digweed, Mrs. Young, Mrs. O‘Brien, Mrs. Hicks, Mrs. Moen. ‘ These retiring members provided an evening of entertainment very much enjoyed. It is good to take time to relax and enjoy the fellowship and companionship of our fellow board mem- bers. There is always a sad moment when part of your class graduate, but there was only a momentary pause for reflection for this was an evening of lightheartedness. A leather handâ€" made book-mark will remind those who re- main of the enjoyable time as well as the long hours of work of the seven completing their term of office. The group games and jumbled words proved many keen minds were still wide awake at fun time. A time to pause and enjoy came when we listened to records of the one hundred and thirty voice choir who provided the choral numbers at the A.C.W.W. Conference in Aus- tralia. These country women had practised at home to familiarize themselves with the words and music. then met together at the conference to practise and put the polish on the songs. The result was delightful and proves that a group effort can be accomplished it' there is a will to do the job. Summer School for Rural Women being introduced by the Ontario Agriâ€" cultural College, Guelph. this year during the week of July 8 to 12. This is a Summer School for Rural Women, with a program based on literature, music, art and techniques in certain phases of work in organizationsâ€" conducting meetings, preparing speeches, writ- ing reports. The course was set up by the 0.A.C. Extension Department at the request ‘ of F.W.I.0. but it is not for Institute members - only. Any rural woman may apply for admis- siOn and applications will be dealt with in the order in which they are received. Following is an outline of the program: Registration will begin in Macdonald Hall on Sunday evening, July 7, from 7 to 9 pm. and will continue on Monday morning, July 8, from 8.30 to 9.45 am. Morning sessions will be taken by all the students, meeting together in War Memorial Hall. The 9 to 9.45 periods will be given to Literature. Beginning on July 9, topics for the four successive days of the course will be: Canadian Women of Letters, The Historical Background of French Canada, Three Novels ‘ of French Canada, Canadian Poets. Music periods will run from 10 to 10.45 am. Beginning July 8 the topics for the five SOMETHING NEW in extension service is SUMMER 1963 successive days are Music of the Baroque Pe- riod, Music of the Romantic Period, Impres- sionism in Music, Music of the Modern Pea riod. Music and Art in Modern Living. Colour and Applied Design is the theme of the Art program, the topics ~ one each day for the five days of the course. being: Dis- covering the World of Design. Design and Human Enterprise, Design: the Consumer and the Creator, Design and Man‘s Environment. Summary and Evaluation. Afternoon classes will meet from 2 to 4 pm. on each of the first four days; there will be no classes on Friday afternoon. For these sessions the students will be divided into three groups. Group 1 will deal with the organization tech- niques of Preparing Talks, Conducting Meet- ings and Writing Reports. Group 2 will take Part Singing: and Group 3. Colour and Ap- plied Design.
