Last year they held garden teas with baked goods and handwork for sale. One brunch whose members lived in a community where there seemed to be too many things "doing" gave a $2 per member donation. An award dinner. complete with caps and gowns and graduation scrolls was held, also :1 -Fun Fair with games. skits. food and an aucâ€" tion sate. With all working toward a common goal. the Award Fund was certainly a common de- nominator. Institute members in South Waterâ€" loo got to know each other better. which in itself is worthy of mention. The committee in charge of the fund didn't wait until the objective had been reached be- fore embarking on their student assistance pro- gram. The worthy candidate chosen for the $l5tt award was Miss Helen Evens. a graduate of Glenview Park Secondary School who secured a 70.9 average in eight Grade XllI subjects. Miss Evens graduates this year front Hamilton Teachers' College and in September will com~ mence her teaching career in Hamilton, With another $150 ready for a worthy stu- dent again this Fall and the $3.00!) fund in» vested, what better way for South Waterloo District to celebrate their sixticth anniversary this June than to aid a worthy student to higher education. I decided, as History Con- vener of our Institute at Agineourt that i would give my annual paper on the inception and growth of the Women's institutes in the North-West Territories. To gain a first-hand knowledge of their work I wrote to these branches and received the most fascinating letters in return. Each writer is in love with her part ol‘ ('anadu and would not change the view from her living- room window for any city street anywhere. Thcy have fallen under the spell of the North and the love of the wide open spaces is in them for the rest ot‘ their lives.
