F. W.I.0. Board’s Spring Meeting By Ethel McCandless The Spring Board Meeting of the F.W.I.O. held at the Ontario Agricultural College. Guelph, is always a splendid inspiration. This year the trees and flowers were just thinking of awakening as Board Members arrived on Sunday, May 3rd. But Mr. John Eccles, Director of Public Relations, O.A.C. remarked. ‘The advent of the F.W.I.O. Board Members to O.A.C. for their spring meetâ€" ing is always the beginning of summer on the Campus", and true to his words the weather be- came beautifully warm and sunny and the Campus burst out in all its glory into leaf and flower, and by the time the Conference delegates arrived the Campus became one of the show places of One tario. Monday morning saw the Board Members down to serious business. The agenda was a lengthy one as the Handbook Committee had prepared byâ€"laws for the new Handbook which has to be presented and passed by the Board, This meant an extra day of meeting which took place on Saturday the day following the close of the Officers Conference. The President‘s Report Mrs. James Haggerty. president of the Feder- ated Women‘s Institutes of Ontario welcomed the members of the Board and Mrs. Douglas Hart. the new Standing Committee Convenor of Citizenship and Education was given a warm welcome. In outlining her duties since the annual meeting last November. Mrs. Haggerty said she had had a full schedule of activities, and to date had been even busier than in former years. Besides attend- ing committee meetings. including the Handbook Committee. Mrs. Huggerty was the guest speaker at the Women's Institute County Rally in Brant- lord. She attended two Summary Days of Train- ing Schools in Owen Sound. addressed the "Girls‘ Sesaion" ot' the Junior Farmers' Conference EXâ€" eculive, She attended the Farm Safety Conference held in Guelph and was a member of one of the panels. Because of the stand Women's Institute members have taken regarding liquor advertising. through resolutions sent to the Board. Mrs. Haggerty was asked to prexent a hricl‘ to the Canadian Associa4 tion of Provincial Liquor Commissioners at their invitation. and she personally presented it to lhe president. Tth rcccived favourable comment from the Commissioners. Mrs. Haggerty thanked the members. Miss Chapman and the Department of Agriculture solicitor [or the help and sound advice received in the preparation of the brief. Many anniversaries, special programs and other events have been attended by the president. all of which she enjoyed. She expressed apprecia» tion for the help she had received from key personnel and the co-opertttion of all members.
